Stroke Rehabilitation at Home — A Family Guide (Chandigarh)
The first 90 days after a stroke decide most of the long-term recovery. Here's how home-based neuro physiotherapy makes a measurable difference.
Why the first 90 days matter
The brain's ability to rewire (neuroplasticity) is highest in the first 3 months after a stroke. Every day of delayed physiotherapy is a missed opportunity — and travelling to a clinic multiple times a week is often too difficult.
What home neuro-rehab actually looks like
Sessions blend passive stretching for the affected side, mirror therapy, task-specific practice (holding a cup, standing up from a chair), and gait training with support. We work on your actual bed, chair and bathroom — not clinic props.
Training the family caregiver
The therapist visits 3–5 times a week; the family is with the patient 24/7. Training a spouse or son/daughter to do safe transfers, positioning and daily exercises multiplies recovery.
Signs of good progress in month 1
Better sitting balance, some voluntary movement in the affected shoulder or hip, and improved speech clarity. If none of these appear by week 4, we escalate to your neurologist.
